Ministerial appointments and departmental restructuring
MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS AND DEPARTMENTAL RESTRUCTURING ANNOUNCED BY THE PRESIDENT
On 30 June 2024, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced departmental changes and members of his cabinet under the newly established government of national unity.
The changes to mining and environmental government departments include:
1. The Ministry of Minerals and Petroleum Resources has now been separated from the Ministry of Energy; 2. The merging of the Ministries of Electricity and Energy; and 3. The Ministry of Agriculture is now separate from the Ministry of Land Reform and Rural Development.
The relevant Ministerial appointments are as follows:
1. Minister of Electricity and Energy: Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa; 2. Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development: Mzwanele Nyhontso; 3. Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment: Dion George; 4. Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources: Gwede Mantashe; and 5. Minister of Water and Sanitation: Pemmy Majodina.
