Chané Stievenart is a Senior Associate in our Corporate and Commercial Department. We asked Chané a few questions to get to know her a bit better:
HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU RECEIVED YOUR FIRST PAYCHECK AND HOW DID YOU SPEND IT?
I was 13 years old, and I spent every Rand on Harry Potter books.
WHAT WAS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU EVER RECEIVED?
To let go of the idea that my career will be linear. Every time I think I should be further ahead, to remind myself that if I retire at the age of 65/75, my career will span over at least 55 years. With this in mind, to view every deviation from a linear path as a unique season to be enjoyed within a period of 55 years.
WHAT IS SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT PEOPLE DON’T KNOW?
I was a massive fan of J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter novels. I convinced my mother to wake up at 4am to get in line for the 5th book when it was released and read all 672 pages in one sitting. I also read all 7 books at least 2 to 4 times each during primary and high school.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND?
At the moment, playing squash a few times a week. It’s loads of competitive fun and laughter, and just so happens to be exercise (so multiple boxes being ticked).
FUN FACTS
– CURRENTLY READING: 11 books (at the same time)! The last one I picked up was “The Last Lion: Winston Spencer Churchill: Visions of Glory, 1984 – 1932”. I am loving Winston Churchill’s biography, absolutely enthralled (it’s a must read)!
– FAVOURITE MOVIE: Pride & Prejudice (2005) (based on probably one of the best (of many) novels by Jane Austen).
– DOG OR CAT PERSON: Dog person (I have two fur babies).
– FAVOURITE HOLIDAY DESTINATION: From what I’ve been told about myself, any holiday destination that has an itinerary for every waking hour.
